What is the GST formula?
The GST amount calculator works in a standardized way. In this calculator, there are two things- adding and subtracting GST from the total purchase price of any product.
Adding a GST:
Suppose that you’re buying a laptop worth $800, and the GST rate is 10 percent. You can calculate what the GST amount will be and how much total you will pay this way:
GST amount = $800 × 10% = $80
Net price = $800 + $80 = $880
Therefore, the total amount including GST is: $880.
Removing a GST:
Let me illustrate this using an example of a smartphone bought for $550 where the total amount paid including 15% of Goods and Services Tax was equal to $632.50 in order to establish cost without taxes.
Original cost = $632.50 - [$632.50 × {100 / (100 + 15%)}]
Original cost = $632.50 - [$632.50 × (100 / 115)]
Approximately Original cost ≈$550
Thus, before applying GST, the original cost of the smartphone was nearly equal to five hundred fifty dollars.
